Why Not Cycles

mad about Africa

I was planning my next trip even before I finished my previous one! My great, my ultimate dream ever since my childhood had always been Africa. The continent closer to the routes of humankind is for many the temple of adventure. Well, I thought it was time to go on a pilgrimage…

mad about Africa

This time we were dealing with an attempt even greater than the first one, both in duration and the distance to be covered. The countries that were waiting for us to explore them were many more than the ones I had visited on my previous journey, and their area is enormous!

Why do I use the plural form? This time I was not traveling alone. Christina came along in a big part of the journey. Therefore, we were riding two motorcycles, in order to focus again on nature and off-roading, something that we are very passionate about. Nothing fancy, just two lightweight enduros, Honda XR 250s, like the one I was riding during my previous trip.

The travelling recipe remained the same: innumerous detours, in order to visit everything interesting, years on the road, to catch the scent of the local societies we were visiting, always guided by the love for People and Nature.

My route around Africa

My route around Africa and the Middle East (short reports at: livetrips.gr)

“mad about Africa“ started in Thessaloniki, Greece on July 18th, 2013. We would have liked to begin our journey through Middle East but due to the political instability and all the massacres taking place in the area the last years, we were obliged to start our trip through Europe. After a couple of months exploring the Balkans, I arrived to Italy, where I met Christina who came there by an ANEK ferry-boat from Greece. From there we took a ferry-boat to Morocco. Traveling through West and Central Africa we reached Zambia. Christina along with her motorcycle flew from there back to Greece in August 2014. I continued solo to Cape Town in South Africa. After months of exploring, I headed north again through the African east coast. After having explored a small peacefull piece of Middle East, I finally completed this three-year adventure on June 29th, 2016 having covered 96,000 km (59,653 miles) in 39 countries. You can check out our route on Live Trip Traveller and you can enjoy our reports at the Trip diary section.

Here you can watch a TEDx Talk about my expeditions (unfortunately, it is in Greek):
